Today in class, we learned some helpful concepts to keep in mind when teaching measurement, specifically length.
Must Know List for Teaching Length!
2. All units have to be placed on the path being measured
3. Units must be without gaps
4. Units must not overlap
§ Length
o Make comparisons
§ Treasure hunts! Ex- "Find five things that are longer than this book"
o Use non-standard units first
§ Arms, hands, feet, cups
o Transition to standard units
§ Rulers- inch, centimeter, meter
*When transitioning from non-standard units to standard units have students make their own rulers
Must Know List for Teaching Length!
- There are four important principals students must remember when measuring length!

3. Units must be without gaps
4. Units must not overlap
- Smaller units----> larger measurement
- Larger units ----> smaller measurement
